Name: John Bennett
Nickname: "JB"
Born: Jan 1964

Job: Worked in the City for years but now lives in New Zealand and enjoys sheep !
Education: All over the place but went to the same school as Ben Clarke at one point and then studied at Loughborough University.
First Season Played back in the Mini's (as it was then) back in the 70's.
No of Games 204
For 1st XV 176
Number of Tries 54
Tries for 1st 41
Captain No - but should have been !
Match Day Superstitions Always made sure he would lose a contact lens sometime during the match - surely not to get a breather though as that would be cheating.
Most Admired International Player Would have to be Ben Clarke !
Favourite Rugby Tour JB was never a big tourist but did do the Hungary Tour and showed previously unknown sides to his character.
Most Embarrassing moment on the Pitch The worst moment was the incident over at Bicester where JB was taken out via a boot in the face as he was pinned down in a ruck. After 25 years of playing and watching rugby, that was the most cowardly thing I ever saw on a rugby pitch.
Most Embarrasing moment off the Pitch

I await some moments from Nigel and Nick on this.
His dad (Keith) had a good moment when driving JB and I to Gatwick for a holliday in Toronto. He was busy chatting and forgot to stop the car in the queue and ran into the car in front - a bit of a problem as we were only on the A40 to Oxford but somehow we made it for the flight.

Best Match for Witney

JB had many a good match for Witney but would probably highlight the Banbury and Henley Cup Matches. Mark Godfrey made his Dream Team back row JC, JC and himself and stressed there had been better individuals but no better combination and most people that saw that trio play could argue with that (mind you, you wouldn't argue with Mark anyway !!).

Worst Match for Witney

JB didn't really do worst matches as he was far too consistant but was on the bench with me for that Didcot relgation match which we lost back in the late 80's - how times have changed.

How to improve training Always struggled with his eyes under those old floodlights but always got frustrated when half the team could not manage to turn up when they worked locally and he had trailed back from London to try and make the session.
Remaining Rugby Ambitions If he isn't already, he should coach as he has a great rugby brain and his man management is very good too which makes it all the worse that he never captained Witney.
Miscellaneous

It was always good to see JB on your team sheet as you knew you would always get 100% from a talented player who rarely chose the wrong option and who rarely had a bad word to say about anyone. Now married to Carol in New Zealand and I know enjoys it out there but misses the Rugby Club, well it misses him too.
