| Miscellaneous | Editors Comment Nick is one of the Clubs long timers and now enjoys refereeing and coaching as much as he did playing. My all time favourite memory of him was when I captained the 2nds against Oxford Harlequins and my Fly Half, Nigel Hugo was injured (hard to imagine I know). Nick was around with his boots on and soaking up the sun in his vest, so I asked him to come on. "Shall I go prop then", he asked. I told him to slot in at fly half and he beemed. From the next lineout he and I executed a dummy scissors and Nick slid through the gap left in the Quins defence who were still a bit bewildered that a 20+ stone, vested bloke had come on at fly half. Nicks pace was not quite enough to get him to the try line but I think we scored just after from the resulting play. If Nick had been the size he is now 20 years ago, I am sure he would have made far more appearances for 1sts and used some of his skills to great effect. I also had the pleasure of sharing a double bed with Nick on tour in Paris and will always remember him rolling over in the middle of the night and me finding myself trapped between the wall and him. After a small "climb" I decided the setee outside in the landing was the best option ! |
