Match Day Superstitions “Always rub some of the pitch dirt on my hands before kick-off”
Most Admired International Player “Dean Richards - such immense presence that he stamped his mark on every game at every level, and always let his rugby do his talking.”
Favourite Rugby Tour “Trinidad 1987 with the University of North Carolina. 10 days of surf, rum, grass and a bit of rugby too.
Most Embarrassing moment on the Pitch “In my last ever game for Shrewsbury (old club) I was allowed to take a conversion in front of the posts. I scuffed it ridiculously and the ball shot straight towards the corner flag. Fortunately the points weren't needed.”
Most Embarrasing moment off the Pitch “Losing the smallest willy competition in an Irish bar on tour - I was too pissed to realise everyone else was cheating (you may well ask how?)”
Best Match for Witney “Witney 1sts vs. Cirencester 1s. WON 17 - 8 22/1/00
Witney had never beaten Cirencester away and we did so that day. One of the first games I felt comfortable in the 1sts too.

Worst Match for Witney 2nd XV v Evesham 23/1/99 Lost 17 - 21
“2nds away to somewhere in a north direction 1998-1999. I was on the bench and came on at half time with us 10-15 points ahead. The ref. and I had some fundemental differences in interpretation of the law - he penalised me off the park and we lost the game almost entirely due to my penalties. On at least 1 occasion the ref. called "no. 7 - handling on the ground" when I was nowhere near the ruck let alone the ball.”
2ndXV Dave Gardner, Mike Stewart, Remy Martin, Mark Blacker, Steve Jenkins, Darren Redgwick, Taff Townsend, Russ Purcell, Glen Davies, James Mills, Alan Richens, Steve Boswell, Paul King, Anthony McAndrew, Pete Holliday
Repl : Chris Birks, Simon Reeves, Jim Rawlins
Scorers - Martin(2), Stewart, Gardner (1 con)
How to improve training “work with the ball in an environment as close to matches as possible - without 100% tackling.”
Remaining Rugby Ambitions To play as much as I can at as high a standard as I can.
Miscellaneous Most Admired Witney Player
“Norm Serle - the ultimate clubman and never takes a step backwards on the field.”
